Our girls football team won the Birmingham City Ladies FC ‘Sister Club’ schools tournament for the second year running with some outstanding performances at Four Dwellings Academy recently. They demonstrated high levels of skill, energy, passion, team work and commitment to win the tournament against 7 other schools with a record of: Played 6 matches, Won 5, Drew 1, Lost 0, Scoring 21 goals and Conceding 0. Truly impressive! Well done girls, we are proud of you!
All after school clubs, including sports clubs, are now integral to our new Four Dwellings Primary Academy University programme. This aims to raise attainment across all areas of curriculum; develop a love of learning; create new aspirations for our children and increase in engagement in out of school learning. The response from children and parents has been very positive!
Already this term, we have run ‘Active Academy’, girls & boys football (KS1 & 2), Quick sticks hockey, basketball and Mini-Olympians (KS1) after school clubs, with more exciting clubs being organised for the Spring and Summer Terms. Watch out for information on the newsletters and other letters sent home! Get involved and get inspired!
Our Reception children continue to have lots of fun in their ‘moving to learn and learning to move’ PE programme. This term, the children have been experimenting with different ways of moving; learning to jump and land appropriately from different objects; and taking part in running and chasing games, adjusting their speed and direction to avoid being caught! We even played tennis!
We were thrilled to welcome the children and staff from St John Bosco Catholic Primary School for a competitive inter-school Quick sticks hockey tournament on the MUGA. Both schools have run hockey clubs this term and this was a great opportunity for all children to apply and use their learnt skills in a fun, competitive experience. We also managed to win the fixture overall by winning 5 matches and drawing 1 matches out of the 8 matches played. Many thanks to Mr Loveridge, the hockey coach from King Edward VI Aston, for organising the first of hopefully many more!
Our children have recently been given the opportunity to attend football coaching session at Four Dwellings Academy, organised by The Albion Foundation, the charity of West Bromwich Albion Football Club. Originally organised as a transitional activity for our Year 6 children, such was the interest from our children in the club, the sessions were made available for all Key Stage 2 children. We look forward to the sessions continuing in 2018 and strengthening our links with Four Dwellings Academy and The Albion Foundation.
Our boys football team proudly wore their new Premier League Stars kit in a thrilling Harborne District Football League fixture against Woodhouse.
Pupils and staff from our school are celebrating after being awarded a Premier League Primary Stars kit pack.
This brilliant pack contains a full strip of 15 Premier League branded shirts, shorts and socks. There can be no doubt that football has the power to captivate many children, regardless of age, ability or gender, providing them with the inspiration and motivation to participate in competitive football in school, as well as engaging them in wider areas of their learning. England internationals Joleon Lescott and Daniel Sturridge both attended Four Dwellings Academy, our neighbouring high school – we may well have a future England player in our midst!
The Kit and Equipment Scheme forms part of the Premier League Primary Stars offer to primary schools in England and Wales. This is a curriculum-linked education programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League and its clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills. Delivered by the Football Foundation, the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme gives teachers a range of equipment that can be used across different curriculum areas to get children active.
Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League and Football Foundation Trustee, said: “Congratulations to Four Dwellings Primary Academy on their successful application for a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack. We hope this kit, coupled with the free downloadable online resources, will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from Maths and English to teamwork and sport.”
Richard Steadman, PE Co-ordinator at Four Dwellings Primary Academy, said: “We are thrilled and thankful to be awarded a gift of kit by the Premier League for our pupils. It will not only create and widen new football opportunities to more pupils, it will also engage, motivate and inspire pupils to attain in other curriculum areas, through the power of football and sport.”
We are always keen to promote out-of-school sports opportunities for our children to continue to enjoy, develop and fulfil potential through sport. Please find details below of football opportunities within a local girls football club, Halas Hawks Girls FC, for girls aged 7-10 years.
Through our school’s partnership with West Bromwich Albion FC Academy, we are offering our children, both and girls, the opportunity to take part in regular football training and matches as part of Soho Albion FC, WBA’s unique community football club for local children. Please contact Ashley Richards for details.
We are thrilled to announce that our school has achieved the Silver School Games Mark for the 2016-2017 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of PE and competition across their school and into the community.
As part of the application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of sports participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our progress and success this year.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who has contributed to our PE and School Sport provision this year and we look forward to going for GOLD next year!
